Kharkiv region was shaken by a high-profile case - a 17-year-old boy raped and then set a 15-year-old girl on fire. The girl died in the hospital 10 days later. The Prosecutor General's Office assures that the suspect is in custody, UNN reports.

According to the investigation, on October 20 this year, the suspect, a 17-year-old boy, while intoxicated, began to harass a 15-year-old acquaintance. The girl tried to run away, but he caught up with her and hit her on the head with a brick fragment, knocking her unconscious. After raping the unconscious girl, the guy first tried to strangle her and then set her on fire.
A neighbor saw the smoke and called the girl's mother. Medics arrived to help.
"The guy was detained immediately after committing the crime and notified of suspicion the same day. Currently, he has been imposed a measure of restraint in the form of detention without bail," the Prosecutor General's Office said.
For more than 10 days, doctors fought for the victim's life, but unfortunately, she died in the hospital. The issue of reclassification of the defendant's actions due to the girl's death is currently being decided.

Under the procedural supervision of the Kharkiv Regional Prosecutor's Office, a pre-trial investigation is being conducted in criminal proceedings on the fact of a completed attempted premeditated murder combined with rape, rape of a minor (Article 15(2), paragraph 10, Article 115(2), Article 152(3) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
