In Kharkiv, law enforcement officers detained six design engineers who helped connect Zaporizhzhia NPP to Rosatom for money from Russia. This was reported by the SBU press service on Monday, UNN reports .
SBU cyber specialists prevented Russia's attempts to obtain new technologies in the field of nuclear energy. As a result of a multi-stage special operation in Kharkiv, six former officials of Ukrainian design institutes who worked for the sanctioned Russian Rosatom were detained
They reportedly developed research and design documentation for the modernization of Russian nuclear power plants. First of all, we are talking about Kursk, Rostov, Novovoronezh and Balakovo NPPs.
Rosatom representatives also planned to involve their accomplices in high-tech work in the temporarily occupied part of the territory in southern Ukraine. There, the defendants were supposed to help the occupiers fully integrate the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant into the Russian energy system.
They were detained at the stage of preparing project documentation for the aggressor. Thus, the SBU thwarted Rosatom's attempts to gain access to strategically important Ukrainian technologies.
According to the investigation, the main person involved in the proceedings is the head of a design organization in Kharkiv. The official established contact with the racists through his relative, the owner of a Russian company that performs contracts for Rosatom. The Kharkiv resident involved five other local nuclear scientists in criminal activities.
According to the SBU, the defendants received remuneration in cryptocurrency from Russia for their cooperation with the occupiers. The funds were transferred to the crypto wallets of fictitious persons, who then cashed the received amounts and transferred them to the designers.
Based on the collected evidence, the SBU investigators served all six detainees a notice of suspicion under Part 1 Art. 111-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (aiding the aggressor state). The offenders face up to 12 years in prison.
