National Commission of the Republic of Estonia in UNESCO filed a joint application with UNESCO on behalf of the institutions of remembrance Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Ukraine regarding the nomination of letters on birch bark, sent from Siberia in 1945 – 1965, to the list of documentary heritage UNESCO "Memory of the world". This is reported by UNN s with reference to data from the Ministry culture and information policy of Ukraine.

According to the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture in the list of "memory UNESCO plans to include 148 documents covering the period 1940-1965 years, and now stored in 31 institutions of memory. Among the proposed documents there are letters on birch bark sent from Siberia, and other personal materials created political prisoners and deportees.

Submission of letters currently stored in Ukrainian museums included in the UNESCO list are the result of the ministry's cooperation culture and information policy of Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs With the assistance of the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO.

The UNESCO list of "memory of the world" includes documentary heritage of world significance.

The list is the most well – known part of the broader memory of the World program. She it is focused on stimulating cooperation between memory institutions in order to preserve and preserve leave a documentary legacy available.
