According to him, the military of the 20th Army of the Russian Federation probably wanted to advance towards Makiivka, on the other hand, they could transfer personnel to other frontline areas across the country.
“At the moment, they (Russian troops - ed.) are trying to restore some parts of their positions and build a new line of defense. Therefore, it is extremely important from a military point of view.<... Destroying forces and means and disrupting plans is often a more important success than liberating territories,” Borodin said.
When asked if the operation was related to the Ukrainian Armed Forces' operation in the Kursk region, he said it was a “synchronized success.”
