Tariffs for gas, heating and hot water will increase from 2026 - NBU forecast

The NBU forecasts that gas, heating, and hot water tariffs will remain unchanged in 2024-2025. However, due to the difficult situation in the energy sector, it is expected that starting in 2026 they will be gradually raised to economically justified levels.

Writes UNN with reference to the NBU's Inflation Report.

The NBU expects that the current tariffs for gas, heating, and hot water will not be revised in 2024-2025. However, given the challenging situation in the energy sector, it is expected that starting in 2026, these tariffs will be gradually brought back to their economically justified levels

- the report says.

The NBU notes that uncertainty over the timing and amount of tariff increases, especially for energy, poses risks to the inflation forecast.

If energy and utility tariffs increase sharply, it will add to inflation and increase the need for subsidies for the population, while delaying tariff increases will reduce inflation in the short term but will lead to financial problems for state-owned energy companies, in particular due to quasi-fiscal imbalances.

This could cause instability in the energy market, reduce investment in the industry, and shift price pressure into the future.

Recall

Back in July of this year, the Ministry of Energy said that it was not considering raising the electricity tariff to UAH 7, although the cost of electricity for households after the tariff increase remains one of the lowest in Europe.
