According to the DOJ statement, the defendant, 51-year-old Iranian national Farhad Shakeri, was tasked with developing a plan to assassinate Trump. He remains at large and is believed to be in Iran.
The ministry added that it had filed charges against two other individuals who were recruited to kill an American journalist who was outspokenly critical of Iran. The charges were likely brought against two New York residents, Carlyle Rivera, 49, and Jonathan Loadholt, 36. They were both taken into custody.
