38 protesters detained in Belgrade, Serbia: more than 30 police officers injured in riots

38 arrested and more than 30 police officers were injured during the riots in Belgrade.

Police have arrested 38 participants in the riots that took place the day before during a during a protest and attempt to break into the city hall of Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. This was reported by local media with reference to the country's Prime Minister Ana Brnabic, UNN informs.

According to Brnabic,  as a result of the protests 38 people were detained and more than 30 police officers were injured.

The Prime Minister also said that Russian special services "provided information" about possible incidents at the protest in Belgrade.  At the same time, she accused the opposition coalition "Serbia Against Violence" of trying to "violently destabilize the state".

She also stated that she had "warned about the intentions of the of the opposition".

"First of all, the data was handed over to us in this way by the Russian security service. When I personally shared it with some ambassadors, they accused us of spreading disinformation, lies, that we trusted the Russian service and that it was all nonsense," Brnabic said.

In the early parliamentary elections held last Sunday, the Serbian Progressive Party of President Aleksandar Vucic won almost 47% of the vote. However, opposition parties accuse the government of massive fraud.  

On December 24, thousands of people gathered in the center of Belgrade for an anti-government protest, demanding the cancellation of the parliamentary elections that took place a week a week earlier. The protesters were trying to get to the Belgrade City Hall. The police used tear gas.
