50 art schools and colleges destroyed in two years of war - Ministry of Culture

As a result of Russian aggression, 50 art schools and colleges in Ukraine have been completely destroyed and 72 damaged over the past two years. More than 3,500 art teachers have lost their jobs, and 44,500 children have been unable to continue their art education.

Due to the aggression of the Russian Federation, 50 art educational institutions have been completely destroyed over the past two years, and 72 have been damaged. This was announced on April 2 by the acting Minister of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine Rostyslav Karandeyev, UNN reports with reference to the Ministry of Culture. 

Details 

Thus, according to Karandeyev, 48 art schools and 2 art colleges (in Bakhmut and Mariupol) have been completely destroyed in Ukraine over the past two years. In addition, 72 art schools and one state music lyceum were damaged. 

Higher education institutions that belong to the sphere of management of the ICIP were also damaged and partially destroyed, namely: Kharkiv National University of Arts named after I. P. Kotlyarevsky, Kharkiv State Academy of Culture, Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts. On March 25, 2024, the Mykhailo Boichuk Kyiv State Academy of Decorative and Applied Arts and Design was heavily damaged. 

Karandeyev also said that more than 3,500 art teachers lost their jobs. 44.5 thousand children and youth were unable to continue studying art. 113 art schools and 6 art colleges are under temporary occupation. 

In addition, many teachers, pupils and students were forced to leave Ukraine, Karandeyev added.
