An explosion at a chemical plant in Telengana, India, killed at least 5 people and injured 16, some of whom are still trapped in the rubble.

At least five people were killed and 16 injured in an explosion at a chemical plant in Telengana state in southern India on Wednesday, a local police official told Reuters, UNN reports .

said police spokesman K.H. Rupesh.

The factory belonged to the pharmaceutical firm SB Organics, and a senior executive is suspected to have died in the incident.

According to reports, eight to ten people are still trapped under the rubble. Local officials do not rule out the possibility that the number of victims may increase, as there were about 50 people in the building at the time of the explosion.

The first footage from the scene shows the plant destroyed by the explosion and smoke rising above the rubble.

There is speculation that another reactor may detonate at the plant. Authorities organized the evacuation of people from the surrounding areas.
