Ukraine is facing a power shortage and is receiving emergency aid from Romania and Poland. A morning rocket attack on Kyiv caused additional damage to the power grid, affecting more than 100 consumers.

Ukraine's energy system is in deficit again today. Emergency aid from Romania and Poland has been brought in to maintain the balance. No outage schedules are expected. At the same time, as a result of the morning missile attack on Kyiv, there is damage to the city's power grids. This was reported on Monday by NPC Ukrenergo, UNN writes.

Generation and consumption

"The power system has a power deficit. The reasons are insufficient generation against the background of high consumption in the country," Ukrenergo reported.

As noted, today three power units did not come on line at the scheduled time due to the extension of the emergency repair period. Other TPP units are reportedly undergoing emergency and scheduled repairs, and solar power plants cannot operate at their maximum capacity due to cloud cover.

"Ukrenergo's dispatch center sees that consumption exceeds the forecast level by 2.2% in the morning. In some areas, the growth of consumption is also facilitated by deteriorating weather conditions: strong winds and ice," the company said.

At the same time, "consumption limits have not been introduced in the regions, and no blackout schedules have been introduced or are expected."

In order to avoid a shortage and maintain a balance between production and consumption in the power system, it is now especially important to conserve electricity, Ukrenergo emphasized.

Emergency assistance

To avoid blackouts and maintain the balance in the power system, Ukrenergo has reportedly been forced to engage emergency assistance from neighboring countries' transmission system operators on a daily basis since December 7. In particular:

- today, December 11, emergency assistance is being provided from Romania from 10:00 to 17:00 and from 11:00 to 14:00 from Poland.

- yesterday, December 10, emergency assistance was provided from Romania and Poland from 14:00 to 18:00 in the total amount of 1400 MWh.

Exports/imports

Electricity imports are reportedly carried out in the morning and evening hours from Slovakia, Romania, and Moldova. Exports are currently not available.

Accidents and blackouts

Yesterday, a 220 kV high-voltage overhead line was taken out of service due to technical damage. Restoration works are underway, and there were no power outages.

At the same time, as of the morning of December 11, 70 settlements in Dnipropetrovs'k, Kirovohrad and Ternopil regions were without power due to bad weather.

Due to the fighting and other reasons, 420 settlements remain without electricity. As a result of the morning rocket attack on Kyiv, there is damage to the power grid, more than 100 consumers are without power. Restoration works are underway. The shelling also caused new damage to power grids in Donetsk, Kharkiv and Kherson regions. Emergency repair works are carried out depending on the security situation and with the permission of the military.

As a reminder

According to the Ministry of Energy , 120 consumers were left without electricity as a result of the nighttime Russian shelling of the capital.
