Russia lost its seat on the OPCW executive board, gaining only 65 votes with a minimum requirement of 66, while Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania won seats.

russia was not re-elected to the Executive Board of the organization for the Prohibition of chemical weapons (OPCW) for the following year.This is stated on the organization's account in the social network X, reports UNN.

For the first time, russia lost its seat on the OPCW executive board without receiving the required number of votes. Moscow received 65 votes, with the required minimum of 66 votes.

at the same time, Ukraine won seats on the OPCW Executive Council from the Eastern European group with 126 votes, Poland with 123 votes and Lithuania with 76 votes.

the organization's statement notes that following the results of the Member States ' elections to the Executive Board for representation in 2024, the following states  included Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, Belgium, Denmark, Greece, New Zealand, Spain, Algeria, Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia, Pakistan, Chile, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala.
