Details

1,274 sentences were handed down to Ukrainians in court cases of military service evasion. The defendants received both suspended and real prison sentences of up to 5 years. Since the outbreak of war in 2024, a total of 3,746 sentences have been passed against evaders. A third of all sentences were passed in 2023.

The largest number of sentences for military service evasion was passed in 2015 - 1,596 sentences

After that, their number gradually decreased, reaching only 8 in 2021. However, in the first year of the great war, the number of cases increased 20 times to 220 verdicts.

In 2023, the number of cases increased 5 times to 1,274. As a result, 60 criminal proceedings resulted in actual imprisonment. For example, in the spring of that year, a person liable for military service passed a medical examination, received a summons, but did not report to the collection point. As a result, he was sentenced to 3 years in prison.

120 sentences have already been handed down in January 2024, which is already 54% of the total number of sentences under this article for the whole of 2022.
