Parliament of Moldova approves National Security Strategy for the first time since 2011

The Moldovan parliament has approved the first National Security Strategy since 2011, designed to counter security risks and promote European integration. The strategy, which was supported by 59 MPs, aims to strengthen defense and fight corruption.

The Parliament of Moldova has approved a draft resolution on the approval of the National Security Strategy. This is the first time such a document has been adopted since 2011, with 59 deputies supporting it. This was reported by the press service of the Moldovan parliament, reports UNN.

Details

The Strategy is designed to increase the state's ability to to prevent and counteract the realization of national security risks, as well as to ensure the process of European integration and cooperation with with partner countries.

There are three goals for improving security:

  • protecting the independence and sovereignty of Moldova and guaranteeing
  • the security of all citizens;
  • creating a strong and respected state;
  • joining the European Union, where peace is guaranteed.

To achieve these goals, the strategy envisages the following directions and measures:

  • strengthening the defense and security sector;
  • progress in the peaceful reunification of the country;
  • development of security partnerships with the most developed and
  • prosperous democratic countries of the world;
  • Strengthening the fight against corruption and creating powerful
  • institutions to ensure the application of the law;
  • Combating disinformation;
  • contribution to regional and international security, in particular through
  • participation in international peacekeeping missions.

President Maia Sandu noted that the national security strategy Moldova's national security strategy will be in force for six years and will be the basis for other initiatives in this area.

The document identifies the main threats and offers solutions to effectively counter them. Today we face two main threats to national security: the aggressive policy of the Russian Federation against our country and against the world as a whole, as well as entrenched corruption in Moldova
