Efforts to rescue 40 workers trapped inside a collapsed tunnel in northern India have been expanded to include drilling from a mountain top, UNN reports, citing BBC News.

A platform is being prepared to accommodate a drilling machine at a site in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand.

Another attempt to reach the workers will also be made from the mouth of the tunnel. Three attempts to drill through the rubble there have so far failed.

The commander of the federal rescue teams, Major Naman Narula, said he hoped to have the platform built by Sunday. The pit is expected to be 90-105 meters deep, he added.

Officials say that if all goes according to plan, the rescue could last another four or five days.
