Restorative Justice Program in Ukraine helps 307 children avoid criminal charges - Prosecutor General's Office

307 Ukrainian juveniles avoided criminal prosecution after completing the Prosecutor General's Office restorative justice program; successes are discussed for strategies to reform the child justice system.
307 underage Ukrainians avoided criminal liability because they successfully completed the Recovery Program, implemented by the Prosecutor General's Office. In total, more than 2,200 Ukrainian children caught up in the conflict more than 1.2 thousand Ukrainian children who have come into conflict with the law. The meeting of representatives of the Prosecutor General's Office was held in the Supreme Court.
At this meeting, they discussed about the draft National Strategy for Reforming the Justice System and Protection of of the Child in the Justice Sector for 2024-2028, and also heard reports on pilot projects to implement the Barnahus model and the involvement of psychologists in criminal proceedings involving children.
In particular, among the the pilots under discussion were analyzed how the "Recovery Program Program for minors who are suspected of committing a criminal offense."
Juvenile prosecutors informed that more than 1.2 thousand children who in conflict with the law had the opportunity to participate in the Restoration Program. As a result of its successful completion, 307 minors have been released at the have already been released from criminal liability by the court at the request of prosecutors.
Deputy Head of the of the Department for the Protection of Children's Interests and Combating Domestic Violence Olesya Voloshyna noted that the juvenile prosecutors of the Prosecutor General's Office, in addition to the pilot projects, they also organized a systematic implementation of international international standards of child-friendly justice.
