SBU exposes two groups of arms dealers selling trophy arsenals to criminals

Law enforcement officers detained 11 people who illegally sold weapons from the de-occupied territories. They seized assault rifles, grenades, ammunition and about UAH 10 million, allegedly obtained through criminal means.

Law enforcement officers exposed two more groups of criminals who illegally sold weapons found in the de-occupied regions of Ukraine. This was stated by the Security Service, reports UNN.

Two criminal groups of arms dealers were neutralized in Kyiv region, as well as in Zaporizzhya, Lviv, Rivne and Chernivtsi regions. The criminals tried to illegally sell military munitions found in the de-occupied regions of Ukraine to criminals

The seized items include an arsenal of Russian Kalashnikov assault rifles, combat grenades and more than 50,000 rounds of ammunition of various calibers.

Thus, nine members of the gang were detained in the Kyiv region, Lviv, Rivne and Bukovyna. Under the guise of volunteers, they were transporting trophy weapons from the sites of former combat operations.

The defendants then restored the combat characteristics of the damaged weapons in underground workshops set up in one of the capital's garage cooperatives.

In addition, in Lviv and Rivne regions, the organizer and two members of another group that tried to sell combat grenades clandestinely were detained red-handed.

During the search of the detainees' places of residence, additional detainees were found:

  • a batch of assault rifles and pistols with components;
  • tens of thousands of rounds of various calibers;
  • almost UAH 10 million, allegedly obtained by criminal means.

According to the investigation, the defendants searched for their clients through their own “advertising” ads on the darknet.

All detainees were served a notice of suspicion under Art. 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (illegal handling of weapons, ammunition or explosives). The offenders face 3 to 7 years in prison
