This year's warmth in Kyiv has set another record. The first frosts in the capital hit after a record-breaking break

This year, Kyiv has had a record-breaking long period of no frost. This was reported on Monday by the Central Geophysical Observatory named after Borys Sreznevsky, UNN reports.

According to observations by the observatory's weather station, on November 18, for the first time this fall, the air temperature in Kyiv dropped to -0.2ºC. This marks the end of the frost-free period in the capital. It had lasted since March 31.

The average long-term date of the first frost in the air is October 21, and the duration of the frost-free period is 197 days.

Climatologists at the Observatory inform that the shortest frost-free periods in the capital were in 1902 and 1945 - only 144 days, and the record longest - 232 days - was recorded this year. The previous record in 2022, which lasted 225 days, lasted only a year.

"Despite the fact that winter has already reminded us of itself, its official beginning will occur when the average daily air temperature steadily passes through 0°C and goes down. The average date of such a transition in Kyiv is November 29," the observatory said.

To recap,

Autumn came to Kyiv two weeks later.
