Two fraudsters tried to collect non-existent debt from wife of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldier: two fraudsters detained in Berdychiv

Two men extorted UAH 50 thousand from the civilian wife of an AFU serviceman, threatening her with death. The woman gave part of the money, after which the extortionists were detained.
Under psychological pressure, the woman took her personal belongings to a pawnshop and later transferred the money to the “debt”, during which the two defendants were detained.

Details of the incident
In September 2024, the extortionists arranged a meeting with the victim and demanded that she pay them UAH 50 thousand. The woman denied having any debt. She was threatened with physical violence and blackmailed into disclosing confidential information. Under psychological pressure, the victim took her laptop to a pawnshop and paid part of the debt.
The suspects demanded to hand over the rest of the money and threatened physical violence in case of going to law enforcement.
They also set a deadline for the payment. Fearing for her life, the woman was forced to raise another amount.
After receiving UAH 10 thousand from the victim, both men were detained in accordance with Art. 208 of the CPC of Ukraine.
The fraudsters have been detained in custody without the right to be released on bail.
