Ukrzaliznytsia records an increase in grain transportation by sea compared to land

Ukraine is redirecting grain cargo to the seaports of Odesa, so the volume of grain transportation by sea has increased.
Due to the redirection of grain cargo from the west of the country to the seaports of Odesa, the volume of goods transferred across the border with all countries has significantly decreased. This was reported by Valeriy Tkachev, deputy director of the commercial work department of UZ, according to UNN.

Over the past week, the number of railcars with grain heading to Odesa ports increased to 7,803, up 10.48% week-on-week.
Grain freight traffic has shifted from the western borders to the seaports of Odesa. There has been a decrease in the volume of grain shipments at the borders with all neighboring countries - Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Romania
According to Tkachev, there are no obstacles to the transfer of goods on the western borders, and the border railroad crossings are operating normally.
The volume of grain cargo transferred across the border:
- With Poland - 78.26 cars per day, which is 14.93% less than in February 2024.
- With Romania - 67.58 cars per day, which is 24.07% less.
- With Hungary, it was 35.55 cars per day, which is 3.11% less.
- With Slovakia - 41.26 cars per day, which is 26.99% less.
In March, the total average daily transfer of grain cargo and cake amounted to 307 railcars per day. This is 66 railcars (or 17.69%) less than in February.

At the same time, the average daily unloading in Odesa ports decreased by 3.18% over the week, amounting to 1,368 railcars per day.
Tkachev explains that constant air raids are hampering the increase in port unloading, as port operators' staff are forced to stay in bomb shelters. In addition, due to systematic enemy attacks on the energy infrastructure, there are temporary interruptions in the power supply to the terminals of the Odesa port.

During this marketing year, Ukraine exported almost 34.5 million tons of grain crops, with 4.9 million tons exported in March alone, indicating a steady export movement facilitated by the ports of Odesa.
