US Vice President Kamala Harris called Senator J.D. Vance (Ohio) and left a message to congratulate him on his election as the running mate of former President Donald Trump, a spokesman for Biden's campaign said.
The official added that Harris expressed "hope that they can meet at the vice presidential debate proposed by CBS News.
Harris and Vance are expected to meet in a debate this summer. Biden's campaign has agreed to a debate on CBS on July 23 or August 13. Trump's campaign did not decline the invitation, but instead accepted an invitation from Fox News for a direct confrontation.
"All we know is that Donald Trump wants a stimulus. He doesn't want a running mate. He doesn't want another Mike Pence, and I think that's clear," Harris told POLITICO of Trump's VP search last month.
"I plan to be in the CBS studio... either in July or August," Harris said at the time. "And let's see if the other side shows up. I'm ready to make my case - whoever he chooses, no matter who it is.
