Serbian President Vucic called Putin to cancel his participation in the BRICS summit. During the conversation, he raised the topic of a ceasefire, but Putin showed no interest.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic raised the topic of a ceasefire during a telephone conversation with the Russian dictator, but Vladimir Putin "was not interested," UNN reports citing Bloomberg.

Vucic said that earlier this month he spoke on the phone with the Russian dictator for the first time in two and a half years. Vucic called Putin to inform him that he would not be able to accept his invitation to this month's BRICS summit in the Russian city of Kazan.

In return, Serbia sent four government ministers to what was billed as the largest gathering of world leaders in Russia since the invasion.

"That's what gentlemen do, that's what real men do" in such circumstances, even if the other party expects a different answer, Vucic said of the phone call.

Vucic said he raised the topic of a ceasefire, but Putin seemed "not interested.

"All the goals of the special military operations, as he said, will be fulfilled," the Russian dictator replied, according to Vucic.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov did not respond to a request for comment. Earlier, Putin said that a ceasefire is impossible until "the opposing side agrees to take measures that are irreversible and acceptable" to Russia.
