Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) returns from standby to normal power supply after blackout

Zaporizhzhya NPP has already switched from a backup to a normal power supply scheme after a blackout at night, NPC Ukrenergo reported on Saturday, UNN reports.

Ukrenergo has restored the operation of a high-voltage line that is necessary to supply the needs of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Currently, the plant has already switched from a backup to a normal power supply scheme,

Ukrenergo reported on Facebook.

Details

Ukrenergo said that ZNPP lost connection with the power grid at night during another Russian attack. "On the night of December 2, during a missile attack on Dnipropetrovs'k region, two overhead lines - 750 and 330 kV - were damaged at once, transmitting electricity to meet the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant's own needs," the statement said.

The power supply to consumers in Zaporizhzhia and Dnipropetrovs'k region was not interrupted, backup lines were used to meet their needs, the NPC said.

As noted, Ukrenergo dispatchers were able to return the main 750 kV power supply line to ZNPP to operation. "At present, Zaporizhzhya NPP receives the electricity necessary for its safe operation from the integrated power system of Ukraine," the NPC reported.

"Ukrenergo's repair teams will start restoring the damaged high-voltage lines as soon as the security situation allows. We are grateful to the Air Defense Forces for their impeccable work, without which the damage to the power system could have been much more extensive," Ukrenergo summarized.

To recap

As reported by NNEGC Energoatom, another blackout occurred at Zaporizhzhya NPP at night, which poses a threat to nuclear and radiation safety. This morning, through the efforts of Ukrainian specialists, the connection with the Ukrainian power system was restored, namely, the 750 kV power line was restored.
