International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) teams that visited Khmelnytsky, Rivne and South Ukrainian NPPs, as well as the Chornobyl site, reported that nuclear safety and security are being maintained despite the effects of the ongoing military conflict, including concerns about air attacks over several days last week. UNN reports this with reference to the IAEA press service.
"The frequent reports of drone flights near nuclear power plants continue to be a source of deep concern for nuclear safety and security. As we have repeatedly stated, any military activity near nuclear power plants poses a potential risk," said Director General Grossi.
On Monday, the team at Khmelnytsky NPP was forced to hide for several hours after hearing the sound of drones. Later, the Ukrainian regulator told the IAEA that 12 drones flew near the site in the morning, with the closest one being 400 meters away. The regulator also reported that there have been three reports of drones near the southern Ukrainian site over the past week.
