Details

According to the ministry, the Republic of Latvia was the first country to actively help Ukraine after Russia's full-scale invasion. Currently, the country allocates 1% of its GDP to help our country.

Acting Minister of Community, Territorial and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine Vasyl Shkurakov thanked the Government and people of the Republic of Latvia for the assistance provided and outlined Ukraine's needs for further recovery.

According to the report on the updated joint assessment of damage and needs resulting from Russia's full-scale invasion (Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment, RDNA3), the total cost of rebuilding Ukraine is almost $500 billion. In 2024 alone, the report outlines reconstruction and recovery priorities totaling more than $15 billion.

"We are currently identifying five priority areas for recovery: energy, housing and utilities, transport and logistics, social infrastructure and services, industry and services, and cross-sectoral needs. It is extremely important for our country to strengthen cooperation with our partners to overcome challenges and achieve our goals. I am convinced that your country will continue to play a significant role in the reconstruction," Shkurakov said.

Dace Melbarde, Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia, noted that Latvia does not stop on the path of consistent and systematic support for Ukraine. However, in order to further assist Ukraine, the Latvian side would like to identify all the needs that currently exist in the country.

"We pay special attention to Chernihiv region in our assistance. We worked closely with this region before the war and now we continue to invest in reconstruction and social infrastructure. We are also considering other ways to help Ukraine, but we need to identify all the requests," said Dace Melbarde.
