In Kyiv, the Shevchenko Museum has announced the start of work on a new complete collection of Vasyl Stus's works, UNN reports.
Details
The publication is being prepared by Stus.Center in cooperation with the Volodymyr Morenets Chair of Literary Studies at the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, "MHP-Hromadas" Charitable Foundation, and Smoloskyp Publishing House.
In order to bring this project to life, we are going beyond unfavorable circumstances and difficult times by accumulating scientific, publishing, and financial resources
This is not the first attempt to publish the complete works of the poet. Editions that numbered several hundred copies were published back in the 1990s. At that time, six volumes of selected works were published by enthusiastic literary critics.
The second attempt was made in 2008. However, the series was never completed.
This time, the project organizers are convinced that thanks to the help of their partners, the full cycle will definitely see the light of day. After all, Vasyl Stus's works are very popular in Europe.
First of all, I would like to thank the MHP Group, the MHP-Hromada Charitable Foundation, and Smoloskyp Publishing House for this initiative. Stus has become a visiting card of Ukraine for scholars and German translators. And this is very gratifying
Earlier, the MHP-Hromada Charitable Foundation helped the Shevchenko Museum itself, and now the partners plan to join the popularization of Ukrainian authors.
We understand the importance of culture in our Ukrainian identity. It has been oppressed, erased, downplayed, and removed altogether. But we have strong people. One of these figures was Vasyl Stus, who, despite all the obstacles in his life, spoke Ukrainian and carried culture. And what it means to be a Ukrainian
It is expected that the publication will be primarily scientific, but will also appeal to the general reader. The publisher promises to show as many of the author's surviving works as possible. The series will consist of at least 14 volumes, the first of which is scheduled to be published in January 2025.
The organizers urge those who wish to purchase the books to follow the announcements. In the near future, they plan to launch a pre-order for the complete collection of Vasyl Stus.
