The main Christmas tree will be lit in Lviv, but there will be no loud celebrations in the city. The 14-meter tree, donated by a local resident, will be decorated with a stylized anti-tank hedgehog and illuminated with lights purchased in 2018.

After lengthy discussions, the city authorities decided that this year Lviv will light up the city's main Christmas tree, but  without loud celebrations. This was reported by the Lviv City Council, according to UNN.

Details

The citywide Christmas tree, which is usually set up on the square in front of the Opera House, will be 14 meters high this year. It is donated by a resident of Bilohirshchyna from his private farm.

After much discussion and reflection, we decided that this year, like last year, there will be no loud celebrations in Lviv, but the city will still have the traditional attributes of Christmas. There will be a main Christmas tree in the city. Although it is not tall, it is very beautiful. It was presented to us by a Lviv resident, Mr. Yosyp Panas, for which we are very grateful

- Sofia Lishchynska, head of the Lviv Department of Culture, said.

Additions

The Christmas tree will be decorated with light illumination, which was purchased in 2018, and instead of a star, an anti-tank "hedgehog" will be hung on the top, which was made last year at Lvivelectrotrans.

The department emphasizes that the lighting of the holiday tree will consume 1 kW per hour (for comparison, an electric kettle consumes 1.7 to 2.5 kW at a time, and a washing machine - 1.8-2.3 kW). In the event of a power outage on Svobody Avenue, the Christmas tree will not be separately illuminated.

To recap

Kyiv will have a Christmas tree this year. The country's main Christmas tree will be set up on St. Sophia Square. The head of the KCIA, Serhiy Popko, noted that there will be no major events, fairs or celebrations in the capital on Christmas and New Year's Eve.
