Voters in seven U.S. states supported protecting abortion rights, including Montana. Three states - Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota - rejected a constitutional right to abortion.

Despite major Democratic losses in the Senate and White House, the party's central campaign issue of protecting reproductive rights was much more successful nationwide, as abortion rights supporters won in seven states

It is reported that the last state to pass such a measure by Wednesday morning was Montana. This is how Montana voters decided to protect abortion rights in their state's constitution. In three other states - Florida, Nebraska and South Dakota - voters rejected measures that would have created a constitutional right to abortion. As Voice of Americawrites,  local referendums were held in the U.S. at the same time as the election. 

The topic of protecting abortion rights is on the ballot in Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New York and South Dakota. Thirteen states currently ban abortion at all stages of pregnancy, with some exceptions. Another four ban abortion in most cases after about six weeks of pregnancy - before women often realize they are pregnant.
