Frost was recorded in Kyiv for the first time this fall

On November 5, for the first time this fall, the temperature in Kyiv dropped to -2.1°C, ending the frost-free period of 198 days. This is significantly less than the record set in 2023, when the frost-free period lasted 232 days.
On November 5, 2024, the period without frost, which lasted 198 days from April 21, ended in Kyiv, according to the Borys Sreznevsky Central Geophysical Observatory, UNN reports.

According to the observations of the Observatory's weather station, on November 5, for the first time this fall, the air temperature in Kyiv dropped to -2.1°C, which marks the end of the frost-free period that had lasted since April 21 - 198 days in total. The average long-term date of the first frost in the air is October 21, and the duration of the frost-free period is 197 days.
The observatory's climatologists inform that the shortest frost-free periods in the capital were in 1902 and 1945 - only 144 days, and the record longest - 232 days - was recorded in 2023.
"Despite the fact that winter has already reminded us of itself, its official beginning will take place when the average daily air temperature steadily passes through 0°C and goes down. The average date of such a transition in Kyiv is November 29," the agency said.
