The president called the collapse of the coalition a “political crisis”, but urged not to consider it “the end of the world”.
He emphasized that he was ready in principle for a vote of confidence in the Bundestag in the government of German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to hold early elections in March.

Scholz is expected to bring to a vote in the Bundestag by the end of December all bills requiring quick passage, particularly on emergency support for industry, as well as measures to stabilize pensions. A vote of confidence in the chancellor's government is due on January 15.

Because of the conflict between Scholz and the Minister of Finance, the head of the Free Democrats party, the parliamentary coalition and the government collapsed.
Lindner called for budget cuts and tax cuts for the wealthy, as well as slowing Germany's transition to a carbon-neutral economy. In protest against such proposals,Scholz announced the dismissal of Lindner from his position as finance minister.
