His publicist Arnold Robinson added that Jones died Sunday night at his home in the Bel Air neighborhood of Los Angeles, surrounded by family.
Jones was one of the most influential figures in 20th-century pop culture, especially known for his production work on Michael Jackson's Off the Wall, Thriller, and Bad albums, which made the singer a legend. He also wrote music for Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, and many other stars.
