Romania has declared a measles epidemic, with almost 2,000 cases reported. The Ministry of Health is launching an information campaign and vaccinating children starting from the age of 9 months.

The Romanian Ministry of Health has declared a measles epidemic in the country due to the rapid increase in the number of cases, as well as the large number of hospitalized infected children. This is stated on the website of the Romanian Ministry of Health, reports UNN.

Details

Currently, almost 2,000 cases have been reported in 29 counties across the country. In this regard, children aged 9 to 11 months will be vaccinated. Usually, vaccination is carried out at 12 months, as well as at 5-7 years, according to the schedule of vaccination against measles .

The new campaign will also target the unvaccinated or those with incomplete vaccinations.

In addition, the Ministry of Health, together with family doctors, will conduct an information campaign for parents to better comply with the vaccination program.

The Ministry of health of Romania notes that the coverage of vaccination with the first dose at the national level is 78%, and the second dose – 62% of children eligible for vaccination, with a downward trend for more than 10 years.
