The German chancellor emphasized the importance of EU unity in the event of a Trump victory in the US election. Scholz will discuss this issue with Macron and EU leaders in Budapest.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Germany remains a reliable transatlantic partner, but that the EU must act with particular unity after Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election. This issue will be discussed tomorrow in Budapest with French President Emmanuel Macron and EU heads of state and government. Scholz wrote about this in the social network X, UNN reports.
"Germany remains a reliable transatlantic partner. This applies to the threat that all NATO Allies agree Russia poses to security across the Euro-Atlantic area. The EU must now stand especially close and act as one. As Chancellor, I am working together with Emmanuel Macron to achieve this goal. We are working closely with EU heads of state and government - tomorrow in Budapest and in the coming weeks," Scholz wrote.
He noted that Germany and the United States are united by a partnership and friendship that has developed over decades.
"We can achieve much more by working together than by working against each other," Scholz added.
