A 110-year-old crocodile Cassius, 5.48 meters long, has died in Australia's Marineland Melanesia Zoo. The reptile had lived in captivity for 37 years and was considered the largest crocodile in captivity.

It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of our beloved friend Cassius. He was more than just a crocodile, he was a dear member of our family and brought joy and company to his best friend George for over 37 years,

- The organization, based on Green Island near the Queensland tourist town of Cairns, said in a statement.

It is noted that Cassius' condition has worsened since October 15.

He was very old and is believed to have lived longer than a wild crocodile.
