The law on national minorities of Ukraine adopted in December 2022 does not apply to national communities representing the aggressor country, the Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada said. According to him, this has been agreed with the Venice Commission and the European Commission.

He explained that the law on national minorities (communities) of Ukraine adopted in December 2022 does not apply to national communities representing the aggressor country.
He also noted that Ukraine has reached an understanding with the Venice Commission and the European Commission on the validity of the provisions of this law. He added that both commissions listened to the arguments of the Ukrainian side that the law on national minorities on national minorities should be based on the principle of mutual respect. According to him, if the Russian people do not show respect, but on the contrary, carry out aggression against Ukraine, their rights should be infringed in this regard.
