US sanctions will hinder the development of LNG projects in Russia - FT

The US seeks to prevent Russia from developing new liquefied natural gas projects, such as Arctic LNG 2, in order to cut off its gas exports to Europe.

The United States is "focused" on preventing Russia from developing new LNG projects. A senior U.S. diplomat told the Financial Times, UNN reports .

The publication also points to a statement by Jeffrey Payette, Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources, referring to discussions during the FT Commodities Summit regarding Russia's Arctic LNG-2 project and the private company Novatek.

Our goal is to make sure that Arctic LNG 2 is dead in the water. We are very focused on making sure that Russia cannot develop new [LNG] projects to [divert] the gas it used to send to Europe
