Zelensky explains why it is important to allow multiple citizenship

The President supported the idea of multiple citizenship for Ukrainians in the EU and close partners.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he supports the introduction of multiple citizenship for Ukrainians who receive passports in the EU or other close partners. He said this during a meeting with the heads of territorial communities and districts of Transcarpathia, UNN reports.
I support the idea of dual, or rather multiple, citizenship. This opportunity will be available only to certain countries - the EU and our close partners. This will help people who have received documents abroad because of the war. It is important for us that they do not completely change their citizenship after receiving documents there. Even if their children have studied there and graduated from university, so that they do not completely lose touch with Ukraine

Earlier, President submitted a draft law on multiple citizenship to the Verkhovna Rada. The draft law defines the principles of citizenship and the grounds for its loss, including the acquisition of citizenship of the aggressor state.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, up to 7.5 million Ukrainians live abroad, for whom this issue is relevant.
